Risk-Taking and Achievement

Risk-Taking and Achievement

A little backstory for those of you who don’t know me: A couple of years ago my husband and I left Canada and since then we’ve been settling into life in Mexico. Probably the biggest risk I have taken in my life and as a result, I am so close to living the life I dreamed of. My life in Canada consisted of work, and a busy volunteering/social schedule. I would regularly go away to volunteer at weekend seminars as part of a large production team. Closer to home, I was part of a small team of about five women who used to create weekends for the women in our community. Prior to the pandemic, I had partnered with my best friend to host our own weekend retreat which was sadly postponed and eventually cancelled due to my move to another country.

In Mexico, I had nothing but time and did a lot of reflection to figure out what I wanted to do with this next phase of my life. That’s when I launched myself as a Personal Development Coach and started creating content such as Manifesting Magic and the Goddess Mastery Circle. I was also site searching, exploring the area for inspiration, because the dream of hosting a retreat was still calling to me. After a not-so-subtle push from the Universe, I went ahead and booked a beautiful property and scheduled a retreat! I was so in love with the Hacienda and so excited by the vision I had in my mind of bringing people together that I stayed up all night planning the whole thing and creating my promotional materials.

After about 48 hours, the excitement started turning into anxiety. I started questioning myself: What if…? What if…? What if…? I asked myself why I was becoming afraid, what was going on? Then, the answer came to me: It was because I was doing it alone. Back in Canada, I was always part of a team. Here, I had asked a friend to join me, but she wasn’t available. By some divine guidance I was being directed to stand on my own. A scary thing for me, but all the more reason why I need to do it. A risk worth taking.

A few days ago, my husband and I cozied up on the couch for dinner and a movie. I chose the National Geographic documentary “Free Solo” about Alex Honnold climbing the face of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park by himself without any safety gear. Last night, I watched “The Alpinist” which featured Marc-Andre Leclerc, also a free-solo climber. I’m not a rock climbing enthusiast, however, I am into psychology, what motivates people and how they overcome challenges. I wanted to tap into their mindset and apply it to my own goals. Which, in comparison, are not scary at all!

I highly recommend watching them to get the whole story, but here’s what I took away personally:

  • If you can dream it, it’s possible.
  • Your passion can become your purpose.
  • Your purpose may not fit into society’s “box”.
  • Have a plan, evaluate the consequences and move forward with acceptance.
  • Listen to your intuition, honour your feelings.
  • If something doesn’t feel right, back away and re-assess.

“If you can’t, you must. If you must, you can.” – Tony Robbins

Both of these men risked their lives, not because they simply wanted to climb to these incredible heights but because something inside was calling to them. They HAD to climb. So, dear reader, I ask you: What is it you MUST do?

Today, Sunday February 5th is a Full Moon in Leo. This Full Moon supports you to release anything that is holding you back from being your authentic self. Take some time to journal about limiting beliefs, identify some barriers and ask for assistance to get through them. Then, ask yourself: What would I do if I knew I couldn’t fail?

Until next time…
