Going All-In!

Going All-In!

I’m a little obsessive. When I discover something that interests me I dive right in and become single-minded until I’ve exhausted it. You may have heard the saying “How you do one thing is how you do everything.” For me, if I get hooked on something, I’m all in. The catch is: It needs to be stimulating! This addictive personality of mine doesn’t seem to apply to house chores or physical exercise. However, I can easily get hooked on a series, binge it all in one day, and be left wanting more!

Can you relate?

Reflecting on my life I can clearly see the timeline. As a child I went from wanting to play with Barbies all the time to spending all day in the pool playing “Little Mermaid” after I saw the movie. In my teens I went all in with my circle of friends, neglecting school and almost everything else, except for my love of the Backstreet Boys, another obsession I had for MANY years! My love for food has been a constant and definitely falls under the category of addiction. For example: When I discovered sushi it’s all I wanted to eat, everything else was disappointing in comparison. I went to College for Food and Beverage Management and dreamt of traveling the world, working in restaurants and eating my way through it all!

In college, I got sick and ended up having to drop out. I went all in with my diagnosis and committed to being angry, depressed and hopeless. Nothing mattered except for my pain. Then, I met a guy and guess what? I went all in with that relationship, moving in together after a month of seeing each other. *Still together after 17 years.

I started going to therapy in my late twenties, about five years into the relationship. During those five years, I was still angry, depressed and hopeless. I didn’t have a job anymore and my relationship wasn’t going well. The only thing I was committed to was feeling miserable while engaged in mindless distractions to pass the time. Therapy was stimulating. My curiosity was engaged.

I started with a Psychiatrist who practiced “Talk Therapy” based on Bergler and his theories of psychic masochism. We would identify patterns of self-sabotage that resulted in my suffering and I would attempt to overcome them by bringing them into my consciousness. That lasted two years going twice a week, and eventually there wasn’t anything new to learn. I also completed a course on Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and started meditating. I discovered Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) around that time. I attended my first Personal Development seminar, a Women’s Weekend about relationships. I attended weekly classes based on that Weekend and volunteered within the organization for over 10 years in an effort to master my relationship skills, with myself and others. Needless to say, I went all in: Trying to fix myself.

During that decade, I met beautiful people who introduced me to all kinds of healing modalities and that’s when the Metaphysical and Spiritual elements started blending into the Personal Development work I do to this day. I surrounded myself with friends and practitioners who taught me everything I know and continue to learn. They helped me heal and showed me how to pay it forward.

I recently befriended an Astrologer and Spiritual Healer. We co-lead monthly Full Moon Gatherings in our local community. Her passion for Astrology has inspired me to dive deeper into it within the context of Manifesting. For the past few years I’ve been teaching what I know about setting goals and achieving them in my Manifesting Magic Workshop. I introduce the practical personal development tools I learned in my training and then I sprinkle on some magic with spiritual and metaphysical ideas such as working with the Moon’s cycle.

I decided to go all in with Astrology two days ago, after the Full Moon. Already, it’s changing my understanding and perspective of the Universe and our role in it. I personally believe, as souls we come to Earth with a purpose and to experience life as a human being. I’m starting to get the feeling that Astrology is knowledge we were gifted to crack the code so we can better understand and to navigate our time here. With that theory in mind, I look forward to getting to know my clients on a whole new level, and working with them to manifest their goals and dreams in this lifetime.
